Jan and Luna

Nealand Cattery and Kennels is a small family business, run by the Shiel family.

We came up in 2006 from Lancashire, where Kevan (my dad) managed a kennels for over 20 years, and I also worked part time for around five years. We always wanted our own kennels and cattery, so we took a chance and ended up on Orkney, which was the best move of our lives.

We all have the benefit of years of experience, and we understand that your pets are part of your family and you want them to be in good hands. We're lifelong animal lovers, and we've made a lot of good friends here (some human, some canine, some feline) because we get to know everyone personally, spending lots of time with each animal, learning their habits and routines.

When you leave your animal with us, you have the security of knowing it'll be safe and cared for, and that someone will always be on hand to deal with its needs, or just to give it a cuddle.

To see the pens themselves, go to our Kennels & Cattery page, and to see the area where we exercise our dogs, go to our Facilities page.

If you've never been to a kennels or cattery before, and you're unsure what boarding an animal with us entails, go to our When You Arrive page, and it'll talk you through the service we provide.

We have many favourite regular customers, but we always welcome new dogs and cats. Whether it's a long stay or just an afternoon, we consider any bookings, so contact us with any questions you may have.

Thanks, Carey Shiel.

I think you can tell a lot about people from their animals, so here's a gallery of our own pets (you may well see them wandering around if you visit).
